To complete the first year, we were asked to design the architecture and landscape for Maggie's centre for our last project.
Maggie's centre is a charitable organization which provides emotional, physical and social support to cancer patients, family and friends. A place where people can feel comfortable as if they were at home. It was set up by Maggie Jencks, whom herself was diagnosed with cancer in 1993. With the help of her husband, Charles Jencks, and her medical team, she was able to set up the charity, which is now located around the UK, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

For inspiration, I had looked into the organic forms of sea shells. When we collect sea shells, it holds a memory that we would cherish and rememeber. I wanted to combine this with Japanese architecture and gardens - to create a meditative atmosphere which people are able to relax. I was inspired by Kisho KuroKawa's design for Swansea maggie's centre, especially with the ceiling spiralling around to the window, which encourages people to be optimistic.
Below, is images of my final design for a maggie's centre.
